L.O.C. MPC Comparisons

Amway's L.O.C. (Legacy of Clean) Multi Purpose Cleaner

Chapter 8: Segmenting and Targeting Markets

A Market Segment is a group of individuals or organizations with similar product needs as a result of one or more common characteristics. SO, let’s take elderly people and people with conditions in general such as diabetes, high blood pressure, or anemia. The market segments that I tend to target are these because the products that I market are marketable because of these individuals. The Nutrilite products consist of vitamins and everything naturally helpful to keep your body free of unnecessary carbs and sugar that can cause diabetes and weight gain in general. The XS energy drinks also help prevent this dilemma because they are sugar and carb free. Generally speaking, older people have high blood pressure or have trouble digesting their food properly, and we know that in most cases the older you get the slower your metabolism may become if you do not exercise regularly. And so for those market segments, Amway has Slimmetry Diet Supplements, Carb Blocker 2, as well as Glucose Health of Nutrilite. All of these help manage your health and are perfect substitutes for a healthy diet. You don’t necessarily have to worry about eating spinach or any other repulsive vegetables.

Another market segment of mine is college students and people who like to work out. I market the XS energy drinks to these two groups because they can substitute the college students’ coffee, and boost the workout lovers’ energy without necessarily being unhealthy. We know how unhealthy coffee and red bull is. It can vary because I can market our perfect water to older married couples, as well as unmarried. The cleaning products are more marketable to couples, as opposed to single individuals. However, single older individuals tend to buy my Legacy of Clean products as well. For those who are young and married with children, I definitely recommend the detergent because it’s unbelievably useful, and it can prove to be essential to their laundry needs. I mean, they are more susceptible to needing to wash clothes more frequently with them having children and all, and it being accessible and delivered to their door is quite more convenient than them going out and buying some. The detergent lasts much longer than ordinary brands like Tide, and All, because you use less of it.

Let’s consider the product differentiation of the Legacy of Clean Triple Liquid 3X concentrated detergent. It is plant-powered, and enzyme-activated. It eliminates the worst stains without irritating skin or dulling or fading clothes. And its triple concentrated to help last you three times longer. The Plant-based cleansers are easy on the environment. The concentrated formula means more loads and less plastic. Rinses clean any temperature water. It is safe for all washable fabrics. It is Dermatologist-tested. And, there are no phosphates, chlorine, or other unpleasant ingredients that could harm the environment. It is also eco-friendly, unlike Tide and other traditional detergents, which is why this detergent would be marketable for a market group that consists of nature lovers and people that go green.

John Tesh: Intelligence For Your Life

Chapter 11: Developing and Managing products

New Products are important to sustain growth and profits. Amway has linked with John Tesh, and we are introducing a new line of products under the same brand as Tesh’s Intelligence For Your Lifesyndicated radio show. The line will embody the same philosophy as the show, “Simple Improvements for Better Living,” and will offer products and services that provide simple, common-sense ideas to encourage people toward a healthy, mind, body, and spirit. So far there are just energy and snack bars, but I’m sure they will expand like when they say there can be additions to existing product lines. We don’t have a lot of new products, but we are making revisions and improvements to the things that we have already had.

Chapter 21: Customer Relationship Management

One of the major aspects of maintaining customer relationship management is the encouragement and tracking of the customer’s interactions with the company. One of the ways that we that we maintain our customers’ interaction with the company is by setting up a ditto. DITTO is the Amway scheduled delivery program. Order what you want once, and the products you specify will be shipped to you at the delivery interval you set. This way our customers do not have to call us to remind us what they need. It is scheduled before hand and it will be there by the time they need it. If you know you use your cleaning products three times a week, depending on how many cleaning items you purchase, you will know the period of time or the time frame in which you will need a refill or replacement of your usual products; this is a way your customers get comfortable with you, and don’t feel that they need to constantly keep up with anything because you’re keeping up with things for them. Almost all of my customers have set up a Ditto. They tell me it’s one of the best incentives to keep them interested in remaining a loyal customer.

Chapter 16: Integrated Marketing Communications

First, I will discuss the AIDA concept and its relationship to the promotional mix. The way we keep the costumers’ attention at Amway Global is through our IBOs. We ask our IBOS to spread the word and have meetings where we enlighten those that don’t know about Amway. Then there is interest; you keep the customer’s interest by following up with them and making sure that they are satisfied. Desire and action go hand in hand.

The goals of promotion are to induce, modify, or reinforce behavior by informing, persuading, and reminding. Integrated marketing communications is the careful coordination of all promotional messages for a product or service to assure the consistency of all messages at every contact point where a company meets the consumer. I would say that this consists of commercials, videos on websites, cds and books, catalogs etc. These all can be considered as advertising, sales, direct marketing and public relations.

Chapter 10:Product Concepts

A brand is a name, term, or symbol that identifies a firm’s products. With Amway, we have about 5 different major brands. Starting with ARTISTRY Skin Care, Legacy of Clean (one of the best cleaning brands), GLISTER (brand for oral hygiene products, Queen / iCook (for healthy culinary products),eSpring®( Water Purifier brand), ATMOSPHERE® (Air Purifier Brand).

At Amway Global we have an 180 day money back guarantee, which you have the right to use it for a reasonable time (90 days) to determine whether it is satisfactory and whether you want to keep it. If you decide that it is not satisfactory, you may return your purchase, or the unused portion, to us. You will be offered a choice of replacement without charge, full credit towards the purchase of another product or a refund of your full purchase price. This falls under the category of product warranty. As a consumer, I believe that this is highly important because they offer us protection. We have the option to be picky. The package is the last chance to influence buyers before they make a decision. So you the best thing you’ll want is to have a logo. For the Legacy of Clean it says positively clean since 1959. Seems pretty trustworthy and it’s worth it.

Chapter 18: Sales Promotion and Personal Selling

Relationship selling is the practice of building, maintaining and enhancing interactions with customers in order to develop long term satisfaction through mutually beneficial partnerships. One way to establish that is to follow up with a customer. You know that they order detergent and dishwashing liquid from you every month. Chances are, that depending on the amount of the products that they ordered, you will more or less know when they will “need” or “want” more. Why not give them a call and see? This helps build a rapport with them. They will more comfortable with you as a supplier and will build a more long term seller/buyer relationship. Out of the whole seven step process, I believe that following up may be the most important step because you may have achieved success in making that one sale, but what about the future? The approaching customer and probing needs are relatively easy as well. Most of the time, I walk up to someone and say “You look rather tired. Look like you need a boost. You like red bull?” If they say yes, then I’ll say “Well, then you’ll love this.” If not, I’ll say “Neither do I; it’s horrible for you. On the other hand, this tastes great and is great for you. I immediately open the can of XS and ask them to try it. If they look hesitant, I will drink from that one, and then hand them another one. If they ask questions, I will be more than glad to explain the product in more detail. But, the main focus is to discover a customer’s interest and then tackle that. You have nothing to lose.

I usually have events where I allow people to SAMPLE my Amway products, while my sister gives out samples of her Avon products. She gives out the campaign books, and she shows what is in season. We usually have raffles where we give out prizes and we also have trivia games to win prizes. My samples include the XS energy drinks, makeup (eye shadows and foundations) lip glosses, energy bars, the perfect water etc. During or after the event, people usually put in orders and these events are where I meet most of my customers and where I tend to network the most. Perfect Empowered Drinking Water uses a unique 15-step purification process to remove contaminants. It is purified, remineralized, ionized, microstructured & Oxygen Rich. P.S. People will never refuse samples because they're free. What better way to market your product..

Chapter 17: Advertising and Public Relations

Until recently I had never seen an Amway Global commercial, or even seen an ad on a billboard or on the train. However, while watching television on a Sunday night, which is the only time I’m really ever home and able to watch it, I saw my first Amway commercial. It was really capturing; I’m not sure it was the music, or the fact that when it initially came on you would have believed it to be an iPhone commercial. But, Amway was simply telling us that they now have an app for the iPhone, where you can access the site and the whole catalog from the phone. This is especially great because the free download allows us Amway IBOs to access a complete product catalog, show customers videos and other product information, and place orders, with or without an Internet connection. It’s also available for the iPod touch, and even though I am not an IPhone owner, I found this to be pertinent information. I would say this commercial displays product advertising as well as pioneering advertising because it touts the benefits of the service, the service being the convenient accessibility of the website via the phone. And, it displays the pioneering advertising because it is stimulating the customers’ primary demand not for the product in particular, but it may increase their curiosity as to what Amway is and what products they sell; not to mention it may encourage more people to join team Amway. Also, if a customer knows that their independent business owner can show them the products practically any time because it’s portable, that is more incentive for them to want to retain their services. Under that video, I also posted Ronaldinho’s secret weapon NUTRILITE* commercial xD

Chapter 15: Retailing

Amway global is an independent retailer, more specifically an electronic retailer because it’s online retailing. So, I will do my best to explain my visit to the retailer. I wanted to get a couple of things. I was running low on detergent for the house, and so I figured I’d buy some more legacy of clean products, some detergent and maybe cleaning sprays while was at it. So, of course I sit there on my laptop with my card next to me while preparing to make my purchase, and then I was distracted when I saw that they have an online makeover process where you can choose from a wide array of models, and make them up step by step with a flash program they must have recently installed. I was on an hour longer than I expected. And, although I don’t even wear makeup, I bought quite a few makeup products. Then when I did get to putting the detergent I wanted in the cart, I was once again sidetracked and I ended up buying Glister, which is the name of the toothpaste we sell. It’s great for your teeth, and it contains Sylodent*, a polishing agent, which cleans and helps eliminate stains to whiten teeth without bleach. Not only that, but it is only 3.99 at retail price, and 3.39 for me being that I’m an IBO. Also, the 6.75 oz. tube is 6 toothpastes in one tube. You truly cannot beat that. I figure why not buy from my own business if I am saving and making money? I am happy because I bought everything in bulk and won’t have to buy for a couple of months, possibly three. And, best of all I spent $75 so I qualified for free shipping.

Chapter 6: Consumer Decision Making

There was an aspect of Chapter 6 that stood out to me and that was the opinion leader. I’m not exactly sure who an opinion leader is in Amway Global in particular, but I would assume that some of the opinion leaders are the girls featured in the Miss America pageant because Amway has sponsored them.  Another opinion leader that I have recently discovered is Ronaldinho. He has signed with Nutrilite. First of all, for those of you to whom the name doesn’t ring a bell Ronaldinho is a Brazilian professional soccer player who plays for Italian Serie A club A.C. Milan and the Brazilian national team. He is known as one of the most gifted soccer player of his generation.
“Equally important to the marketing and media benefits we secured with AC Milan is the ability to be on the forefront of cutting-edge scientific research and sports training of world-class athletes through the Milanello Training Center,” said Amway Chief Marketing Officer Candace Matthews. “More specifically, by collaborating with Milan Lab, we can showcase how our NUTRILITE products help the team achieve optimal health.” [Ronaldinho.cc]
Earlier this year, Amway signed Ronaldinho to a global endorsement agreement and named him Global Spokesperson for the Amway One by One Campaign for Children. This has had a big impact on the company and has contributed to the sales and has influenced over 5.5. Million children all over the world. NUTRILITE® is a brand of Amway Products. This is the world's leading brand of vitamin, mineral, and dietary supplements.  This is great because a lot o f people look up to him and it will encourage them to use the products if they believe it is helping keep him agile enough to perfect his craft. This goes back to consumer decision making. Most of the people buying the products buy it solely because of the opinion leader, regardless of how they themselves value the particular product.
I have tried the products myself. They have a concentrated fruits and vegetables tablet. It. Provides more than the five to nine daily servings of fruits and vegetables health authorities say are needed to reduce risk for a variety of cancers, and it delivers antioxidants to help fight free radicals generated by smoke, pollution, and exercise. I don’t know about you, but I know people that are grown and still don’t eat vegetables, perhaps because they don’t like to or they just don’t have the time. This tablet has me feeling healthy when I take it.
They also have the NUTRILITE carb blocker 2, which is great. It is a gentle way to help control calorie absorption from table sugar and starches such as breads, cereals, pasta, rice, potatoes, peas, dried beans, and other carbohydrate-rich foods. But, the great thing is unlike those other calorie burners it still gives your body the benefit of the vitamins, minerals, and fiber found in carbohydrate-containing foods. And it helps keep you fuller longer. If girls still want to keep that size 2, it’s not a problem. And, you can still eat as unhealthily as you’d like, but not that I’d recommend it. But it absorbs the oils and trans fats from your food before you’ve even digested it. Great invention because you won’t be crapping up a storm all night. I’m sure it affects people differently, but so far the reviews have been stupendous.
We know that gender plays a role on the decision of a consumer to buy. Amway has Artistry skincare and makeup for women, and they have NUTRILITE products which is a neutral brand of products because you don’t need to be a specific gender to appreciate products that help improve your health.

Why Red Bull is bad for you...

Red Bull Ingredients

TAURINE
Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid which is naturally occurring in the human body. “Conditionally essential” means that in some situations or under certain conditions, as for example, in situations of high stress or physical exertion, increased amounts of taurine are eliminated from the body and cannot be replaced by the body in sufficient amounts.
Taurine is involved in vital functions of the human body. Taurine acts as an antioxidant and has been shown to promote detoxification by binding together with harmful substances and thereby accelerating their excretion from the body.
Taurine is also contained in different foodstuffs like e.g. scallops, fish or poultry and is added to most baby food.
GLUCURONOLACTONE
Glucuronolactone is a carbohydrate.
It is naturally occurring in the human body where it is involved in detoxification processes, supporting the body in eliminating waste substances from the body.

Glucuronolactone is also present in different foodstuffs such as grain or red wine.
CAFFEINE
Caffeine is known for its beneficial effects on mental and physical functions. It has been shown to improve e.g. reaction speed, alertness and concentration. Caffeine also stimulates fat-burning during endurance activities and thereby helps to use fat stores in the body which results in a more efficient supply of energy.
Caffeine is contained in many foodstuffs such as coffee tea or chocolate. One can of Red Bull Energy Drink contains approximately the same amount of caffeine as a cup of coffee.
B-GROUP VITAMINS
B-group vitamins play an important role in energy metabolism, such as the build-up and break-down of carbohydrates, fat and protein. B vitamins are also shown to support mental and physical performance.
SUCROSE
GLUCOSE

We know glucose is one of the main causes of diabetes. Taurine is horrible for you, and red bull is said to have ox piss in it. On the other hand, XS energy drinks taste great and they have no sugars or carbs. We also have drinks without caffeine, which isn't for everybody.

Chapter 5: Developing a Global Vision

So, I read in Chapter 5 of The World of Marketing, that Global Marketing has an immense impact on the U.S. It does because the exports account for 25 percent of U.S. economic growth.
Multinational corporations move resources, goods, and services and skills across national boundaries. Amway Global does this. They distribute their products to 8 different countries. These countries include Argentina, Guatemala, Brazil, Honduras Canada Mexico Chile Panama Colombia Puerto Rico Costa Rica United States Dominican Republic Uruguay El Salvador Venezuela. These countries are primarily what bring us so much revenue. If we operated solely in the U.S., we would not be doing 8.4 billion a year. However, a lot of our products were indeed established and manufactured in the U.S.
I think that Americans are cheap and they choose not to buy from their own manufacturing companies. Foreign is appealing to them. We rather buy something important from China, Indonesia or Japan, which is why America does the trading.  It’s a blessing and curse to our economy.
XS energy drinks and a lot of the other Amway products are actually manufactured in America. The Manufacturer is XS Energy LLC, and they are a California-Based Company. I would say that they are doing pretty well. One of our biggest competitors is Red Bull. The company was founded by Thai national Chaleo Yoovidhya and Austrian national Dietrich Mateschitz. It is an Austria based company. However, in America it is during very well and still is considered to be one of the most popular energy drinks in the world. I feel that is because it is not an American made product. We tend to support foreigners rather than build up our own country. This is one of the negatives of global trade. Although XS energy drinks are an American manufactured product, they are becoming more universal to other countries, and they are becoming more popular.

Chapter 4: The Marketing Environment

The factors within the external environment that are important to marketing managers can be classified as social, demographic, economic, technological, political and legal, and competitive. Amway Global is established and is known in 8 different countries, which definitely identifies with the demographic factor. A company should really be worldwide and accessible to everyone.

I would say our competitors range from all department stores to Avon and soo on and so forth. Being that we are in a recession, people will tend to stick to what they know they want or really need. When competition becomes a factor, it can be difficult to market.

Technology is a critical factor in every company's external environment. For Amway, technology is crucial because we are an online shopping network. People need technology to even view our product. We dont have actual retail stores nore do we go door to door. We used to handle things that way when Amway was first established, but it has become more convenient for us to change where people shop.

Week 3: Ethics and Social Responsibility

It is said that being socially responsible means an organization shows concern for the people and environment in which it transacts business. These values are communicated and enforced by everyone in the organization. It is also said that organizations that consistently exhibit socially responsible tendencies may eventually gain a strong reputation that could pay dividends in the form of increased customer loyalty. At Amway Global, we hold team meetings where myself and fellow business partners communicate how we are spreading the word about our company and products. We hold these every week. There are thousand and millionaires in my company that make this commitment to attend these meetings and help motivate people because not only are they successful, but they wish to continue to be.

We have a meeting designated for our guests to come and we help them to get a better understanding of what we do and sell. We also have demos where we demonstrate how our products are beneficial to each and every person that may purchase them. For example, we sell a toothpaste by the name of Glister. This toothpaste is far better than Colgate or Crest, which when utilized for a demo, are proven to deteriorate aluminum foil. They also destroy and eat away at our tooth enamel, a fact that was conveniently left out by the American Dental Association. Then again, why would they inform people of something that is detrimental to their own income? Ladies and gents, we may have never needed dentists all these years =)

At Amway Global, we sell environmentally safe and healthy products. For example, we sell XS energy drinks. They are perfect for people who may have a condition like diabetes. I have suggested them to my great uncle, who has a high sugar count, yet still likes drinking energy drinks with excessive amounts of sugar and a lot of glucose. He is now a fan of XS, and he recommends them to all of his friends, some of which are actually diagnosed with diabetes, or just want to prevent health problems and live a healthy lifestyle. The only similarities between standard energy drinks and XS energy drinks are the caffeine, which is no different from the coffee or tea that the average new yorker may consume two to three times a day.

We show our consumers social responsibility by maintaining our commitments to these meetings, as well as using our own products. Practice what you preach, right? Also, we have an ethical and social responsibility to society at large. For instance, there is the Amway One by One Campaign for Children, which has helped more than 7 million children since it was launched in 2003.This campaign has helped the well-being of children by offering children the resources they need to live, achieve, learn and play.

Last but not least, Amway has a skincare and cosmetic line by the name of Artistry. Having said that, the Miss America Organization is the world's largest provider of scholarship assistance for young women. Together, through the ARTISTRY scholarship, we work to empower women to follow their dreams and achieve their goals.

week 2: strategic planning

Well, the way that I would say that my company is doing strategic planning is through its independent business owners.  An IBO (Independent Business Owner) is an independent contractor authorized to own and operate an independent business pursuant to an agreement with Amway Global. IBO's have a financial interest in the sale of Amway goods and services. They use us to market their products. We bring them to work, school, church, etc. People will be things when they see that the people promoting them are actually using them, unlike most celebrity endorsers.

One of our strategies  that us  IBOs use is we establish a temporary presence at a public location and sells directly to customers. Individual cans of ice cold XS Energy Drinks and XS Shots are a focus. At some venues, it may be appropriate to sell cases of drinks as well. These Events include (but are not limited to) the following types of venues:Concession Stand at a High School or College sports, such as football, basketball, track & field, soccer.A friend of mine is a professional kick scooter rider and I go to his events and promote xs drinks as well.

XS Gear is the official marketing resource of XS Energy Drink.  However, it is only sold through the IBOs . We help them sell and market their products more efficiently. The result has been an unprecedented surge in growth in Amway Global organizations. I encourage everyone to join us because its residual income and we make our own rules =)

Brief mission statement

I am an independant business owner of a company called Amway Global. Our goal is to better people's lives with scientifically proven healthy products, and to allow people to join us while assisting them in selling and promoting the products.  Is anybody a fan of the Orlando Magic? I have a fun fact. Amway Global actually owns the arena and the team.  The product that I will be following is one of the products that my company distributes, and it is called XS energy drink. XS energy's mission is to bring flavors that consumers love without the carbs and sugar. XS energy drinks have exact 0 carbs and 0 calories. They have only eight calories. How amazing is that? They are available in a variety of flavors, including three that are caffeine-free. All of the XS Energy Drinks, except the caffeine-free flavors, have 83 milligrams of caffeine.

Amway Global was founded in 1959 by Rich DeVos with his lifelong friend and business partner, the late Jay Van Andel. Amway Global operates in more than 80 countries and territories around the world, and enables more than 3 million people to own independent businesses, people such as myself ;-).
